October is my absolute favorite month. Fall is in the air! Sort of, not really – it’s still 80 degrees! I’m going into this month with the feeling that I need to hit the reset button. The past couple of months were so busy. There were a ton of fun things on the agenda and a handful of unexpected stressors. We adopted a sweet new furbaby, a 6-week old kitten named Olive. She is adorable! She has had some health issues though so we have had to keep her quarantined in our downstairs guest bathroom. Poor little thing! We take her back to the vet tomorrow so I am hoping for some good news.

Landon will be 2 and a half in November. I’ve done a horrible job of keeping up with monthly updates of his milestones and accomplishments. As a blogger, I feel completely ashamed of myself. As a Mom, I’m just over here feeling proud that we all have on clean clothes. You know? He is so much fun but he is also at the age of knowing what he wants and he wants it NOW. He also knows exactly what he does not want. This includes most of the food that I prepare for him. He would prefer to eat chicken, burger, pizza, and fries for every meal. I guess if I’m being honest with myself, I would prefer that as well.
New this week: His hand is healing well. He burnt his fingers on the stove last week and he has been telling anyone who will listen, “It hurts me. The stove is HAWT. I was fixing food. IT IS HOTTTT.” Upon asking him if he will touch it again he says to me that, yes, he sure will. Okay. Great. I appreciate his honesty. He also recently told me, “This is garbage.” when I tried to feed him a piece of pizza crust. And the woodchips at the playground are “crumbs” and they must be brushed off of all surfaces before he can enjoy himself. He is very, very worried about the crumbs. Heaven help us. But he does love cars, Blaze and The Monster Machines, Paw Patrol, and a very weird cartoon on YouTube that you can find by searching for “Blue Car” that involves Spiderman driving various Lightning McQueen cars. He knows all of his colors and he can count to 6 without any help at all. I have also turned him into a Sims 4 fan – we have actually been live steaming on Twitch.TV (link here) when we play. Welcome to the nerdiest household on the block…
In other BIG life updates! Many of you who follow me on Instagram may already know this but we received some fantastic news this week! At the beginning of the year, Nate decided he wanted to chase his big dream of becoming a Lexington Firefighter. He started the process in January and we just found out yesterday that he has been accepted into the academy! It has been a LONG year of praying, waiting for that news, and waiting for the right time to share it. He only told a handful of family members and close friends in person that he was interested in doing this. So I tried to be very respectful of his privacy – a hard thing to do for an oversharer like myself. I basically ran screaming to Instagram once we found out he was accepted! I’m just so, so proud of him! I’m excited about the changes, no matter how hard they are. I’m just over the moon to see him succeed at something I know he feels passionate about. It’s difficult to get up every day and go to a job that drains you but it’s so easy to get comfortable living with that as your reality. I just admire him so much for deciding that he needed a change and now he’s going after it with everything he’s got!
I have been a little down lately but I’m coming up for air. Time to work on healthier eating habits, working out more, and getting some organization back into my life. Does anyone else feel like just about every time you really get your life together that something MAJOR happens to throw you back into a downward spiral? I just want to get organized again. I think I may create a breakdown of everything I want to tackle in every room of my home and create a functional checklist that I can share here.
I’m thinking more about vlogging (yes, again) and plan to stream live on Twitch.tv in the evenings around 2-3x a week. So keep an eye out! There is such a fun community over there. Even if you aren’t really into gaming, there are channels for everything! You can follow me here and when I go live you will get a little notification!
Also: I have still not implemented my capsule wardrobe because my closet has exploded. I should probably start my organizing venture there and make a vlog about it to accomplish two things at once! 😉
Pieces of the Days is a “whenever I feel like it” series where I share photos from my iPhone and talk a little bit about what is going on in day to day life! Working on making this a weekly series!
