Project Nursery: Repurposing Old Furniture to Add Character

Project Nursery: Repurposing Old Furniture to Add Character

When I started to envision Baby Boy’s nursery months and months ago I really didn’t have much direction. Everyone kept asking me what theme I was going to go with and I met their questions with a blank stare. I wandered the baby store aisles feeling like I would never find what I was really looking for – something unique, something … not covered in some sort of Disney character. The bedding sets I found on Pinterest were perfect but also $500?! So that was out. I started to realize that I didn’t really want or need a theme or insanely expensive bedding and furniture. I just wanted something simple .. a color scheme, patterns, texture.
Project Nursery: Couch Project

We had an old couch in our office turned nursery and I knew that I wanted to keep it in there to lounge on as a nice quiet place to hang out and nurse the baby. My Mother-in-law covered it in super fun retro fabric and when she wanted to get rid of it a couple of years ago I had to have it. I loved it in our office but lime green retro fabric didn’t go with our nursery color scheme of golds, grays, yellows, mint/turquoise, and navy. Thankfully my Mother-in-law agreed to recover it again and so she, my Mom and I set out to find the perfect material.

We even put my niece, Bella, to work! Ha. Just kidding. She was crafting scraps into pretty things!!

We found this super soft velvety retro gold fabric on clearance at a fabric store and got ALL of the material we needed for around $50. The fabric was pretty thick and ended up being sort of hard to work with but it all came together in the end. I say that pretty flippantly because I wasn’t the one doing all the work. ;] It took quite a bit of effort/time and I’m very pleased to own the last piece of furniture my Mother-in-law ever plans to recover. Haha!
Project Nursery: Repurposing Old Furniture to Add Character

I decided to take the easy decorating task of adding some personalized pillows to liven up the “new couch” even more and make it a true focal point in the room. I love how it all came together! I ordered the pillows from Tiny Prints and they turned out just perfect! So typical of me to push the hard labor off on someone else while I just clicked “add to cart” and waited for pretty things to show up on my doorstep! And you guessed it – Baby Boy’s name starts with an “L”! I am just so in love with little finishing touches like this – they make it feel like this is *HIS* room.

I feel like our nursery is “in style” without being a copycat of someone else’s Pinterest photo and that is exactly what I wanted. I love the pops of color against the neutrals that we’ve picked and every perfect detail! This is obviously just one corner of the room and I’m so excited to share the whole nursery with you all! Stay tuned!!

Wow redoing that couch would have been a big job! It looks awesome, the room seems really nice and cozy. I'm sitting here thinking of all the boys names that start with L… 🙂

It was!! I hope I can learn to recover furniture myself at some point! It's so fun to see it all finished! 🙂 I can't wait to share his name with everyone! It's been hard to keep a secret. —Sent from Mailbox

The room you decorated looks really great. Decorating a baby nursery can be a fun. You can definitely create an appealing nursery, from your baby's room wall colors to baby furniture.
