Being a mom is chaos, magic, and exhaustion, all wrapped up in one big, messy bow. Ask me how I know! Mom of 4 boys here! Moms are the glue holding the whole operation together and that can be a heavy weight to carry. But here’s the thing — we don’t have to do everything. Seriously, you don’t. There’s this magical little concept called outsourcing, and it’s here to save your sanity. I’ve put together a quick list of ideas and services to help you outsource some of the things that might be weighing on you!
Let’s talk about how you can hand off some of the less fun parts of your never-ending to-do list. Because guess what? Focusing on your kids and yourself is not just allowed; it’s essential. (Another ‘ask me how I know’ situation.) Here’s how to make that happen without feeling like you’re letting anyone down. Because let’s be honest: we always feel like we are.
Cleaning Services: Happy Mom, Clean Home
Who loves scrubbing toilets? Definitely not me. This is where house cleaning services come in! Imagine coming home to a clean house knowing that you didn’t have to lift a finger in order to make it happen. This would be an actual dream come true.
You can hire someone to do it all — the floors, the dusting, the tubs — or only the stuff you hate most. Maybe you’re fine with vacuuming but hate wiping baseboards. Whatever. Pass it off and take back time for things like finger painting with your little ones or just sitting down with a cup of coffee that’s still warm. Maybe even both – go crazy! I know I want to!
Grocery Delivery and Meal Prep Services
Dragging my kids through the grocery store is an Olympic sport. Someone’s whining about snacks, someone else is climbing the cart, and I’m just trying to remember why I’m even in the grocery store. Skip the circus and let someone else handle it. It is THE best.
Grocery delivery apps like Instacart or Shipt are life savers. You click a few buttons and poof; food shows up at your door. No tantrums, no checkout lines, no forgetting the milk. Better yet, there are meal kit services that’ll send pre-measured ingredients or fully cooked meals straight to you. Less chopping, more eating. And hey, even picky eaters can get on board with fresh-made tacos or pasta. I love using both of these options, depending on what season of life we are in.
Childcare Assistance
Let’s be honest. We all love our kids, but sometimes, we just need a little space. As a work from home mom I know firsthand what it’s like to need time to myself! Hiring a babysitter or even a part-time nanny can be a game-changer if it’s an option for you.
A lot of my mom friends swear by having a “mother’s helper.” They’re these magical humans who entertain your kids while you’re still home but doing something else, like drinking coffee in peace or actually finishing a task without interruptions. It’s not about ditching our kids; it’s about creating some breathing room. I know when my Mother-in-law and/or my Niece comes over to entertain the twins and give me a little bit of time to get things done, it helps SO much.
Yard Work and Home Maintenance
Unless you’re the rare mom who loves mowing the lawn, outsource this. Most of the time, my husband handles this! But if he’s away on shift and it needs to be done – it’s always nice to know that this is an option! There are landscaping companies, neighborhood kids looking for work, and even apps to help you find someone who’ll shovel your driveway or rake leaves.
And those home maintenance tasks you’ve been ignoring? The ones that require tools you probably don’t even own? Call a handyman. There’s no shame in delegating. We have a whole bathroom we need some assistance with in our basement and I can’t tell you how long we’ve been putting it off. I’ve been convinced that my husband and I can tackle it (we can) but as it turns out, we really don’t have the time with 4 kids!
Organizing Services
Raise your hand if the toys have taken over your living room. Or your closet is bursting at the seams. (Guilty.) Professional organizers can come in, wave their magic wands, and make it all make sense again.
They don’t just clean; they create systems that work for your life. Think labeled bins for toys, color-coded closets, and pantries that actually make sense. Once everything has a place, you’ll spend way less time hunting for things. Imagine that extra time spent snuggling your toddlers or reading bedtime stories instead of tearing apart the house looking for the missing remote. Though you can’t convince me that we will ever not be looking for a missing remote in my house.
Pet Care Services
If you’ve got pets, you know they add their own layer of chaos. Outsourcing pet care—dog walking, grooming, or even pet sitting—can give you a break. Apps like Rover or Wag make it easy to find someone reliable, so your furry friends are happy and cared for, even on your busiest days.
Outsourcing Isn’t Cheating
Let me say this loud and clear: you don’t have to do it all. Moms wear so many hats—nurse, chef, teacher, referee—but there’s no rule saying you can’t take some of those hats off and hand them to someone else.
When you outsource, you’re not being lazy. You’re being strategic. You’re saying, “I’ve got bigger things to focus on, like being present with my kids and not burning out.” That’s not failure—that’s genius.
So, give yourself permission to ask for help. And please, someone point me in the direction of my own blog post the next time I’m drowning in tasks.
