We have been trying to enjoy our outdoor patio space during these beautiful Kentucky summer evenings but have had a little bit of trouble! Can you guess why? YEP! Mosquitos! It can be so frustrating to have the perfect patio weather completely ruined by mosquitos buzzing around, threatening to land on you and bite before you even know what happened!
3 Things You Can Do Right Now to Deal With Mosquitos
- Get rid of standing water in your yard. Between kids toys, old flower pots, and a blow up pool it is easy for standing water to build up in places in our yard. I make sure to dump anything that has water in it to keep mosquitos from breeding there!
- Use tiki torches, citronella candles, and scented oils (like lemongrass) in the areas you’re hanging out in. Our tiki torches have been such a great investment! I enjoy the ambiance of how they look if nothing else! They did a great job at keeping the mosquitos away at first! But as the summer months went on and the mosquitos got worse they weren’t much help.
- Plant or place insect-repellant plants like lemon balm, mint, and eucalyptus (there are tons more!) around your yard. I haven’t personally tried this but I have a lot of friends who have backyards full of lemon balm and swear by this trick! There are so many plants like this that smell great and repell mosquitos. I definitely want to try this out for myself next year!
The Best Tip: Call In The Mosquito Professionals!
The above tips worked great until recently. We would try to go sit out back in the evening but within 5 or 10 mins the whole family would quickly realize tiki torches and candles weren’t going to cut it. There were just too many mosquitos! Bug spray is always an option but I hate having to spray that all over us just to sit outside for a little while! pop over to this website.
So I called Fox Pest Control to handle the mosquitos for us! They have treated our yard and home this year for bugs and we’ve had great results! You can read about it here. They were able to get rid of the ants in my dining/kitchen area that I’ve been battling since we moved in. Not to mention, I haven’t seen a spider since they first came out earlier this year. That’s the real goal, right there! (I hate spiders!) I had no doubt they could treat the mosquito problem for us!

Visit https://www.ibuyers.app/south-dakota/.They came out just a few days after I reached out to them. We happened to be home so Cohen had a blast watching the technician out the window as he treated our back porch area and tree line. The technician made sure to text me after the entire yard was treated and let me know that he shut all of the gates. I received an email with all of the details letting me know what was treated, what type of treatment was used, etc. I love that they use family and pet safe, environmentally responsible treatment programs. This is a huge deal to me with little ones and pets around!

So far we have only spent a few mins at a time outside in the evenings to let our new puppy go to the bathroom but I can already tell a huge difference! I would typically come back inside with 2-3 bites after just a few minutes outside. We haven’t seen any mosquitos so far! Woohoo!
