What It’s Like to Take a 17 Month Old Trick-Or-Treating

Landon went as Mickey Mouse for Halloween this year! He is obsessed with Mickey (it’s hereditary) so it was the perfect costume! Last year he was still so, so little and of course – he really didn’t care! But this year- ah – he was into it! It was fun! We thought about putting him in the stroller but in the end we decided to just hold his hand and let him enjoy himself! He pretty much figured out what the whole thing was about right away – strangers telling him he’s cute and giving him things. Though I don’t think he fully grasped the concept of candy, he did understand that he needed to run up and get something to put in his bag. Haha!

Trick-Or-Treating with a baby who can’t eat much candy is a weird spot to be in as a parent. Nate and I let him take candy from our neighbors who were sitting out in their drive ways handing it out but we didn’t go up to any doors. After we got a handful of candy in his little bag we stopped taking any. I recently read on one of the Facebook mommy groups I’m in (those are always full of interesting reads, right?) that a lady went off on a mom for taking candy for her baby, saying that she KNEW the parents were just going to eat it. So I think that made me a little self conscious! Ha! I know we shouldn’t care but ah, well. We left the goodies out there for the bigger kids! And yes, I did let Landon take a little tiny bite of a Snickers and a Reese’s Cup.

I can’t wait to see what he wants to be next year! It’s so funny the way things change. I always knew I would love being a parent but it’s one of those things that you just can’t even imagine how good it is going to be until you’re in the midst of it.
