It’s National Twin Day! So a photo of Bennett an It’s National Twin Day! So a photo of Bennett and Everett with their twin big brothers (who they look more like than each other) is the perfect one to share!

I read earlier today that the worldwide twinning birth rate is 12 in 1000 births. I guess we are just a rare bunch in this household with our medical histories (Kawasaki Disease.. Guillain–Barré syndrome..) and now twins. 🥳 #nationaltwinday #twinmom #twinmomlife #boymom
It’s World Breastfeeding Week! Having preemie tw It’s World Breastfeeding Week! Having preemie twins really flipped everything I thought I knew about breastfeeding upside down.

This time around I’m having to pump more, bottle feed, nurse, and add in a bit of formula a few times a day to help them gain weight. I can’t just nurse them both at night because Everett doesn’t get full, so I have to get up and deal with bottles and pumping. Otherwise, He would literally stay awake all night snacking every 20 mins! They’re still only going about an hour and a half before they get fussy again so by the time I’ve changed diapers (and some outfits) and pumped, I lay down for about 30 mins before at least one wakes up to eat again. 🤪 And if you don’t wake the other.. then you’re up twice as much!

As they get bigger it’ll be easier to tandem nurse and will save so much time and energy (especially at night). We practiced yesterday morning and this was the most successful attempt we’ve had. I felt so proud of them.

This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, for sure. But I know the days are long and the years are short. I know this because we are taking a 2nd grader to school orientation and I swear it was just yesterday that I was going through these sleepless newborn nights with him. 🤯❤️

I love to think about the journey that brought us I love to think about the journey that brought us here. Nothing about how Nate and I ended up together or all of the things that led right to where we are now could’ve happened by chance. If you would’ve told me back when I was putting up “cool music” on my MySpace page to try and impress this hot guy in Kentucky that one day we’d be married and raising four cute boys together in our dream house .. driving a dang minivan.. I’m not sure I would’ve believed it. 💞✨ We are sleep deprived, slightly outnumbered, and the dream house needs occasional ($$$) repairs but man… I still feel like I am the luckiest because I’m doing it all with him.

NICU life is hard. It would be hard no matter what NICU life is hard. It would be hard no matter what, but trying to juggle one baby at home + our bigger kids adds another layer of difficulty. We have to be present for them, so we can’t be at the hospital constantly. And when one of us is there, it doesn’t feel like we’re doing much. The fact that we have no idea when he will be ready to come home is the worst part. I’ve tried to imagine what this is like when I’ve seen other people going through it but like so many things, you just can’t know until you experience it yourself.

He’s doing well, but just has to keep growing and getting stronger! He is down to one liter and on 21% oxygen. He still has to be able to eat all of his food by mouth and he gets a little too tired to do that right now. But all in all, I know he is making improvements every day. I can’t wait to bring him home! 💞

Thoughts on Pregnancy: 20 Weeks and Half Way There!

I am 19 Weeks and 3 Days in this photo!
Woohoo! It feels completely insane to say that I am halfway through my pregnancy with this little babe!! Totally and completely insane. Everything felt like it was moving really slowly for a long time and maybe it still does feel that way? But then I think about being HALF WAY done and it starts to put things into perspective a bit – time is flying. So far, January has been a pretty chaotic month and yes I know – we’re only a week in. Nate caught Pneumonia on our trip to Washington DC, I was coming off of being sick for almost a month, our pet died, my parents arrived at our house the day we returned from DC to stay with us and start their house buying process (a GOOD thing. But I always like to be a good hostess and not an exhausted mess). It was nuts!

Plus, I’ve been going back and forth on what type of care I really feel I need during this pregnancy. I keep wanting to stay with my doctor because of convenience but my gut is telling me that a Midwife is what I’m truly looking for – personalized care, someone to truly talk to me and answer my questions, someone to look out for me when I don’t know something. Being pregnant for the first time is kind of scary, and being made to feel like you should just KNOW things or you should have to figure it all out yourself without any guidance is a terrible feeling. I shouldn’t have to feel that way, ya know? On a happier note – after much confusion with different doctor offices and scheduling issues, I am having my anatomy ultrasound a week from today! Nate and I are so excited to see cutie again and make sure that he is truly healthy! We can’t wait! I’m constantly just wondering what he’s up to in there – is he okay, is he growing, am I drinking enough, am I eating well enough, am I taking enough vitamins???? Ahhh! And then I get on the Bump message boards for all of the May 2015 babies and read the horror stories of low amniotic fluid and bad test results. So then of course I’m Googling things like how to tell if your amniotic fluid is low until 1AM. This is not normal behavior is it?

But any way – I found this cute little survey to help me sort my updates a bit! It’s not that interesting and it is more for me than anyone. =) But enjoy!

How Far Along Are You: 20 weeks! Half way!!
How Big Is The Baby?: According to my pregnancy app, he is about 10 1/2 ounces and the size of a banana!
How Much Weight Have You Gained?: Right around 10 lbs. I was around 140 to start with and now I’m 150!
Maternity Clothes: I’ve been wearing maternity clothes for a while because, hello comfortable! But most of my dresses are still fitting at this time. Strangely enough it’s my chest that is causing my regular clothing to not fit, not the bump! Unless I wear something pretty form-fitting most people are completely shocked when I say I’m 20 weeks!
Stretch Marks: Nope! Not yet! I’ve been using my Save My Skin body oil by Pure Romance and it seems to be working well!
Sleep: My sleep issues have gotten much better with the right pillow placement and fewer trips to the bathroom. I’ve definitely been having strange dreams though and I’m starting to wake up feeling very hot in the middle of the night. ALSO- I have developed a strange rash on the insides of my arms that itches like crazy. If I don’t take Benedryl before bed I wake up in the middle of the night scratching my arms off.
Best Moment This Week: Going baby shopping with Nate over the weekend. We went to look at cribs and ended up buying a few outfits that we found on sale. We’ll be buying our crib very soon AND I’ve picked out a car seat. =D
Movement: I don’t feel him often but when I do it’s very obvious that there’s a baby twirling around in there! I sat down at work a few mornings ago and could feel him moving for several minutes very low on the left side. Made my day! I’m hoping that this anterior placenta will move a bit and I’ll feel him more!
Food Cravings: I haven’t had any really strong cravings in a while.
Food Aversions: Guacamole, pickles.
Labor Signs: Nooo way.
Belly Button In or Out: Still in, but barely!
What I Miss: Unlimited cups of coffee. Being able to do drops/learn new things in aerial class! WINE. Beer. Sushi. My immune system…
What I’m Looking Forward To: My anatomy ultrasound on the 15th!
