What I Wore · April 6, 2011

Are You Red-Y?!

This title was inspired by Emmy. Yeah, she’s so pun-y that it kills me. ;] (love you Emmy!)

I’m finally going to address the fact that I sort of went nuts and had my hair dyed bright red. Yeah. I mean I know that you’ve seen it in a few 365’s but I haven’t really said a whole lot about it- not that there’s much to say. But I feel like I need to say something about it because people keep asking me why I did it. Like there would be some profound reasoning behind it and well, there really isn’t. I was scared beyond belief to dye my hair anything but mostly blonde (my natural) for quite some time. And then I dyed it the red that it has been- a much lower key color red/orange. So this time I finally got up the courage to be like, “HEY LOOK- I really want this color red.. here.. in the picture.. OKAY?” and my hair stylist got really excited and complied. I think she was just scared I didn’t really know what I was asking for. But, hey. I said I was going to do something crazy after I got married and didn’t have to worry about having something silly and crazy in my wedding pictures for all eternity- so I finally did. There are some almost pink looking highlights in it that will probably turn blonde after a few washings- as they were supposed to be blonde but during the rinsing she just couldn’t keep the red from getting on them. We’ll see!

I told Nate that having your hair a bright noticeable color feels a lot like having a tattoo on your face, or at least I am guessing. I’ve seen people do double takes/whisper and I’ve been flagged down in the hall at work by people I don’t know (who clearly seem to know who I am). And today someone stopped me and told me that they didn’t like it. HAH. But oh well. I like my hair. That’s all that matters right?

I can understand peoples shock(?) but it really only matters if you like it or not.

I like it, and really don’t get people’s reaction because I think you’re a grown woman and you can do whatever you want. Now had you cut it all off and dyed it purple & green and spiked it up or something? Sure. But the bright red thing is end – it’s still edgy but not uncomfortably so. It looks great on you, too!

That’s kind of how I feel too. I just don’t think it’s really all that crazy. The lady at work that said she didn’t like it (which didn’t offend me at all) was all worried that she had upset me today. She went on to tell someone else she just didn’t think I was that type.. and I’m like? What? That type? IT’S HAIR.

And thank you, I hope it looks good. I really like it either way!

Oh hun… I’m smitten with your new gorgeous tresses, the colour is beyond amazing on you. I love it, I love it! As for peoples reaction, meh, that’s all I heard when I got my tattoo. Oh people, and their silly questions. Congrats on the gorgy hair. xx veronika

    YOU ARE WELCOME!!!

    Ha.

I like it. Edgy and a brave choice. It says, I am not afraid for you to look at me. You are always so brave in your sartorial choices as well – your confidence is what helps carry it off so well!
