Nate & I got to try out Hello Fresh a few weeks back and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on it. For anyone who doesn’t know, Hello Fresh is a meal subscription box. You can check out all of their plan options here! The box shows up with all of the food and ingredients that you need to prepare the meals listed inside the box. It comes complete with step by step directions to cook each meal. We chose the family plan because in our experience with meal subscription boxes in the past, the portions have been on the small side. You can watch the time lapse video above to see meal prep and cooking from start to finish. I must admit – I spelled “bulgur” incorrectly in the video and I probably said it wrong too. Haha, forgive me! We liked the meal but would probably trade out snow peas for a different veggie next time! The portion amount was definitely large enough for our family (2 adults / 1 toddler) and I actually ended up freezing some of it. What I Liked About Hello Fresh
I really like that meal subscription boxes force you to get a little outside your comfort zone and cook things that you wouldn’t normally think to cook. It’s a pretty hassle free way to try things that have a lot of different ingredients that you don’t want to hunt the grocery store for. I’m one of those people that tries their best to create a list in the order that I am going to shop the store but no matter what I do I still forget something on the opposite side. Sometimes more than once. Hey, I get my exercise in! Ha. That being said, I’m still a bigger fan of Instacart than I am of meal subscription boxes. Read about my experience with Instacart here – there’s a coupon!
What I Didn’t Like About Hello Fresh
I’m a bit of a bargain grocery shopper so the price point ends up being a little bit higher than what we’re used to for meals. That’s honestly the only thing I don’t like. During extremely busy periods of life though? I totally think it would be worth it. I like knowing that I have this in my back pocket for when we’re too busy to think up good meals/get to the grocery BUT we don’t want to find ourselves eating tons of fast food.
If you’re interested in trying out Hello Fresh for yourself, feel free to use the code linked here for $40 off! I’ll get $20 too, if you do!
