Buffalo Trace

Buffalo Trace
A few weekends ago Nate and I met up with some friends for a delicious breakfast of coffee and donuts, and then we made our way out to Buffalo Trace to tour the distillery and taste a little bit of bourbon. It’s been really fun visiting different distilleries and learning the history of so many different types of bourbon, but mostly it’s just really fun to do the tasting! They had a little something for everyone on this particular tour since Buffalo Trace also makes vodka and an irish cream liquor – who knew?! They even had root beer for anyone uninterested in the “regular” tasting. Oh and as always – there were bourbon balls! Free chocolate? Yes, please! There’s not even a tour fee at Buffalo Trace so when I say free, I mean free! Definitely a great way to spend a few hours of an afternoon if you’re on a budget and you enjoy touristy adventures!

Our guide was hilarious. He must have had 15 cups of coffee before coming into work that day. I have never seen so much energy or enthusiasm in my life. Everyone on the tour gazed around at one another, wide eyed, like – what is this guy on and can I have just a little bit of it?! Ha! I wish I could be as excited about anything as he was to tell us that Buffalo Trace was one of only four distilleries in the country to receive a permit to remain open during Prohibition for medicinal purposes. It’s crazy to think that there has been a working distillery on the grounds since 1787! I always try to imagine the people of that time wandering around the grounds and how different it would have been.

This looks like an awesome time. I definitely need to go on some brewery tours! Unfortunately I live in an area that's lacking them in immediate range, but I bet I could find some if I investigated.
