When life gets busy (hello, four boys and a full plate!), it’s easy to put home projects on the back burner. But giving the outside of the home a little attention doesn’t have to be overwhelming—or expensive. Whether you’re prepping for guests, dreaming of more curb appeal, or just want to feel more proud pulling into your driveway, here are a few simple ways to refresh the exterior this summer.
Refresh the Paint
Want instant results with a weekend project? Refresh the paint. Whether it’s the full exterior, just the trim, or even the shutters, a new coat of paint can completely transform how your home looks and feels. Neutral tones are timeless, but don’t be afraid to try a soft green, slate blue, or even a warm black for contrast. It’s one of the easiest (and most affordable) ways to freshen up the outside of the home. I have a shutter refresh on my to-do list!
Upgrade the Front Door
The front door plays a huge role in impacting the appearance of your home. If yours is looking a little worn or just isn’t your style anymore, this is a great place to start. A fresh coat of paint (navy, deep red, and sage green are trending, but I tend to gravitate toward bright mustard yellows and turquoise hues!), new hardware, or even a completely new door can totally change the look of your entryway. Add a clean welcome mat and some seasonal flowers, and the space will feel brand new.
Build a Deck (or Refresh the One You Have)
Adding a deck can completely elevate your outdoor space. It’s perfect for summer evenings, family hangouts, or just sipping your morning coffee outside. If you’re building new, take time to research the best deck build company in your area to ensure it’s done well and lasts for years.
Already have a deck? Power wash it, apply a fresh stain, and style it with a few cozy outdoor pieces like string lights, planters, and seating. A little refresh goes a long way.
Improve Outdoor Lighting
Lighting does more than help you see at night—it’s key in impacting the appearance of your space. Swapping outdated light fixtures, adding solar path lights, or installing motion lights by the garage or entry can instantly boost curb appeal. This small change can make a big impact, both in style and function.
You don’t need a total renovation to fall back in love with your home. A few intentional updates can completely change how the outside of the home feels. Start small, take it one step at a time, and enjoy making the space your own.
