Thrifting and finding a super good clearance deal = my favorite! I’m not really sure what my style is these days.. but I’m having fun playing around with it and feeling a little more like ME in what I’m wearing. Warped Tour heart, coffee shop soul vibes? ✨😆

I think sometime between becoming a mom, working, I think sometime between becoming a mom, working, keeping up with a house, and trying to take care of everyone else… I forgot to ask myself what I actually like.

So lately I’ve been paying attention.

The clothes I want to wear.

The hobbies I want to try.

The spaces I want to create.

The things that make me feel like myself.

Maybe this is exactly what your late 30s are for. Not becoming someone new.. but remembering who you are.✨

I still just sit and stare at them in disbelief sometimes.. my twin babies.. my last babies.. and somehow they’ve been here for 4 whole years. If you’re a twin mom, you know that the time passes different. The early stages are a blur in a way I don’t even know how to explain. It makes it all a bit more bittersweet.

I love you Bennett & Everett! 💙💙

Universal was a blast. I hadn’t been since I was Universal was a blast. I hadn’t been since I was a teenager and I only vaguely remembered a ride or two! There was so much to do for the littlest brothers and aside from being HOT, it was perfect.

Everett was big mad at us for taking him on the SpiderMan ride and did not trust our judgement the rest of the time. 🤣 He LOVED the 1 Fish 2 Fish ride and wanted to ride that all day.

Bennett on the other hand was all about the thrills and the Trollercoaster was his favorite. He said it was “Torrifying” but he made us all ride it with him multiple times.

I rode Velocicoaster with Nate, Landon, and Maile. And while I would do it again - for a moment I did think I might die. I only did that once. 🤣 Nate and Landon rode it multiple times. Hagrid’s was more my speed and Cohen agrees with me!

I am a Disney girl at heart! But Disney doesn’t have a *real life* baby dinosaur that you can pet sooo there’s some competition. 😆

How to Prepare for a Day Out on Lake Cumberland

This blog post may contain affiliate links. Learn more.

When you start planning a trip around Kentucky, what comes to mind first? A lot of people think about the Bourbon Trail with stops like the Four Roses Distillery, a day at Churchill Downs, or hiking Red River Gorge. Others might say Cumberland Falls or even the Sanders Café in Corbin. But not nearly as many people think about Lake Cumberland.

Lake Cumberland should be on that list too. Every summer, people travel from all over Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, and even Missouri to spend time there. The towns around the lake, like Nancy and Burnside, have a welcoming small-town feel. The Appalachian views are beautiful, and the water seems to stretch on forever. If you’re planning a full day out on the lake, especially if boating is involved, it helps to go in with a plan.

Know the Sun and the Hot Spots

Lake Cumberland is massive, with more than 1,200 miles of shoreline. That means a lot of time in the open sun. If you’re anchored in a cove, the breeze can trick you into thinking you’re not burning, but the sun is no joke here. Whether you’re swimming at Harmon Creek, checking out 76 Falls, or floating in a quiet spot, pack plenty of sunscreen, hats, and light cover-ups so you don’t end your day with a bad burn.

Food, Drinks, and Long Days on the Water

A trip to Lake Cumberland isn’t usually just an hour or two. Most people are out there from morning until the sun goes down. Packing a cooler with sandwiches, wraps, fruit, and way more water than you think you’ll need will make your day easier. If you don’t feel like packing everything, marinas like Lee’s Ford and Burnside (including Safe Harbor) have restaurants and stores where you can grab a quick bite or stock up on drinks and snacks.

Should You Rent or Buy a Boat?

For visitors, rentals are everywhere at Lake Cumberland. You can find pontoons, houseboats, and jet skis at marinas and outfitters. It’s a great way to try out lake life for a day.

But if you know you’ll be back often, buying your own boat makes sense. Having your own means no paperwork, no deadlines, and the freedom to head out whenever you want. Plus, you can take it to other lakes too. If you’re just starting to look, check out Sylvan pontoon boats for sale, or consider a speedboat or houseboat depending on the kind of experience you want.

Dress for the Day

The lake is beautiful, but it can be tough on your feet and balance. The shorelines can be rocky, and docks can get slippery. Water shoes aren’t the cutest, but they’ll protect your feet. And even if you’re a strong swimmer, a life jacket is always the safer choice.

Whether you’re heading to Lake Cumberland for the first time or you’ve been coming for years, it’s one of the best places in Kentucky to spend a summer day. From swimming and boating to grabbing food at a local marina, there’s something for everyone. Add it to your list along with the Bourbon Trail and distilleries, and make it a spot you return to year after year.
